The Therapist
Mary L. Donker, L.P.N., L.M.T., C.N.M.T.
Mary is the founder and director of the Centre for Pain Relief. She was trained as a nurse in New York. Since 1979, she has worked in rehabilitative nursing, hyperbaric medicine, emergency rooms, and progressive care units as a nurse.

In 1986, Mary was licensed by the state of Florida as a Licensed Massage Therapist. Since then, she has studied with Paul St. John and become certified in Neuromuscular Massage Therapy, the St. John Method. Currently, she is on the St. John Seminars teaching staff.

Mary is the Educational Director of the Louisiana Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association. She is Licensed with the State of Louisiana.

Experience
  • 1992 - Chairperson for the Louisiana State Board of Massage Therapy.
  • Owner and Director, since 1989, The Centre of Pain Relief, an independent massage clinic in Metropolitan New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Member of American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), since 1986.
  • Educational Director of AMTA 1988 to 1993. Convention Coordinator of AMTA 1990 to 1992. Also served as Membership Secretary 1990-1992.
  • Certified Neuro-Muscular Therapist since 1988 (NMT, St. John Method).
  • 12 years as Assistant Instructor with Paul St. John, an internationally recognized expert on soft tissue dysfunction and pain.
  • Provides massage therapy to physicians, chiropractors, academicians, actors, and professional athletes, including the New Orleans Saints team members.

  • Assist 25 to 30 clients per week. Treating a spectrum of conditions which include: pain relief, soft tissue dysfunction, bio-mechanic analysis and stress reduction.
  • Message Therapist, Beatty Chiropractic Wellness Center, Metairie, LA, 1988 to 1989.
  • Consulted, in conjunction with a Chiropractor, up to 15 patients per week for the assessment of treatment for soft tissue dysfunction, pain and stress relief.
  • Massage Consultant/Supervisor, Premier Athletic Club, Metairie, LA, 1987 to 1988.
  • Supervised up to five therapists. This supervision included hiring and termination. Wrote articles for newsletter.
  • Supervising Massage Therapist/Consultant, EuroVita Spa, Avenue Plaza hotel, New Orleans, LA, 1986 to 1987.
  • Wrote policy and procedures for Lofa scrubs and herbal wraps. Trained, supervised, hired, terminated and scheduled up to seven therapists.
